Perio Protect

If you have periodontal disease, then you know that treatments can often involve extensive dental care and in some cases the loss of teeth. Perio Protect is a revolutionary new method used for treating periodontal disease without the use of in–office surgical procedures. The Perio Protect product is designed to preserve patients’ teeth and gums after being diagnosed with gum disease.

What is Perio Protect, and how does it work to treat gum disease?

Perio Protect is a simple, easy-to-use, at-home treatment for most cases of periodontal disease. If Dr. Fletcher determines that you can benefit from this treatment he will prescribe Perio Protect. With Perio Protect you will use a set of customized Perio Protect trays filled with doctor prescribed medication. The trays are then placed over your teeth and gums so that the medicine will flow into areas that can not be reached with flossing and brushing. By focusing the medicine into these areas, the bacteria growth is disrupted thus minimizing the progression of the disease. For all patients, Perio Protect can be used as a supplement to brushing and flossing; however, it is not a replacement, and patients must remember to continue brushing and flossing regularly.

How do I know if Perio Protect is right for me?

If you have had extensive dental work, Perio Protect will help minimize the chance of further decay.  If you think you may have a form of gum disease, please contact our practice and schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Dr. Fletcher can help determine if your teeth and gums are at risk; and if necessary, he may prescribe Perio Protect. Common signs of gum disease include:

  • Bleeding gums (if your gums bleed while brushing and flossing your teeth)
  • Receding gum-line (if your teeth start to appear longer and you notice your gums separating from your teeth)
  • Noticeable plaque and tartar build-up
  • Red, swollen, tender gums that hurt when touched
  • Persistent bad breath, or an ongoing bad taste in your mouth
  • Teeth become extremely sensitive
  • Teeth start to become loose

In order to properly diagnose gum disease, Dr. Fletcher will need to check your teeth for any sure signs of infection. Active periodontal disease not only affects your oral health, but it can affect your entire body. Studies have shown a direct link between gum disease and other serious health conditions including heart disease, high blood pressure, blood sugar irregularities, and low-infant birth weight. Stay healthy! If you’ve been diagnosed with periodontal disease, be sure and talk to Dr. Fletcher about Perio Protect. If you would like to read more about Perio Protect go to www.perioprotect.com.
